报告摘要: A description of fundamental ideas, techniques and mysteries of condensed matter theory - the theory of everyday everything - will be given. Examples of solved and unsolved mysteries will be discussed.

报告人简介:Prof. Abrahams obtained PhD in Physics in 1952 from UC Berkeley. After working for 4 years at U. Illinois, he joined the faculty of Rutgers University in 1956 and became the Bernard Serin Professor of Physics in 1966. He is now the Director of the Center of Materials Theory at Rutgers University. Prof. Abrahams received numerous honors and distinctions, including Guggenheim Fellow in 1976, Fellow of American Association for Advancement of Science in 1989, Member of the US National Academy of Sciences in 1987, Fellow of American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1999, visiting Professor of Collège de France, Paris in 1987. He served as the President (1979-1982) and the Chairman of the Board (1997-2000) of the Aspen Center for Physics. Prof. Abrahams has made seminal contributions to a number of subjects in quantum many-body theory of correlated systems, including high-temperature superconductivity, metals at the breakdown of Fermi-liquid behavior, helium at ultra-low temperatures, localized spins in metals, magnets with unusual spin correlations, and the disordered interacting electron fluid in two dimensions.
