Abstract:

Ultrafast spectroscopy has been proven powerful in the investigation of condensed matter physics. The integration between ultrafast laser and other techniques opens up even greater possibilities for exploring fundamental physics. In this talk, I will present two examples: 1) combining optics with thermal transport measurements to understand the Planckian scattering in strange metal systems; 2) integrating laser spectroscopy with electrical transport to probe the giant spin and orbital Hall effects in an ultra-pure metallic system.

Brief CV of Dr. Fei Sun:

Fei Sun received his Ph.D. in condensed matter physics from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2020. After that, he moved to the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids in Dresden, Germany as a post-doc fellow. His research mainly focuses on utilizing lasers to probe the fundamental physical properties of materials, including spatially resolved optical investigations (thermal diffusivity, birefringence, MOKE, etc.), nonequilibrium time-resolved ultrafast dynamics, and coherent excitations in quantum materials.
