报告人简介:

Magda Titirici is Chair in Sustainable Energy Materials at Imperial College London and holds a Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in Emerging Technologies. She earned her PhD from TU Dortmund University (2005) and completed postdoctoral work at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces.

Her research focuses on sustainable materials for energy storage and conversion. She has published ~400 papers and has been a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher since 2018. Awards include the RSC Corday-Morgan Prize and the Royal Society Kavli Medal.

She leads a diverse group of ~40 researchers (~50% female). In 2023 alone, four members secured prestigious fellowships from the Royal Society and Royal Academy of Engineering. She has secured >£20 million in funding from EPSRC, Faraday Institution, Royal Society, and industry partners including bp, Shell, and Toyota. She serves as Chair of the Publishing Board and a Trustee at the Royal Society of Chemistry.

报告摘要:

To achieve a carbon-neutral society, a portfolio of sustainable energy technologies is urgently required. This talk presents our research on beyond-Li-ion batteries, green hydrogen, and platinum-free fuel cells.

I will introduce our "green batteries" 12 principles and focus on sodium-ion batteries—particularly hard carbon anodes and sodium storage mechanisms via advanced characterisation. I will also discuss "anode-free" Li/Na batteries for higher energy density.

For green hydrogen, beyond reducing Ir-based catalysts in PEM electrolysers, I will present alternative anodic reactions using biomass and plastic derivatives (glycerol, ethylene glycol) that co-produce valuable chemicals at lower potentials, enabling circular manufacturing.

Finally, for fuel cells, the oxygen reduction reaction remains a bottleneck reliant on scarce Pt. I will present our bio-inspired Fe–N–C single-atom catalysts, focusing on active site nature and the stability challenges limiting commercial deployment of these promising platinum-free catalysts.
